Yearbook distribution is being organized for Thursday, July 16, 2020 ONLY.   If that date does not work for you, you may select one of the other two options provided at the link provided below. Please follow the instructions to enable personnel to know how to plan the delivery of your yearbooks. LINK
PICKUP/RETURNING OF BELONGINGS
Parents who were unable to pick-up and return belongings on June 6-10 will need to call the office to make an appointment to drop by the Main Office for this purpose.  Students’ belongings that were left in their desk on March 13 have been bagged for them as well as items such as a water bottle, emergency kit.   Students are expected to return any textbooks, classroom or school library books and borrowed computer devices.  For families who have enrolled in Summer School, the return dates for those computers will be July 27 and July 28.
THIRD PERIOD AND FINAL PROGRESS REPORT INFORMATION
  • The third period and final grading period Progress Reports will be mailed from the LAUSD Division of Instruction.
  • When you receive your report card, please know that "N/A" will appear on the elementary progress report for subject areas that were not the focus of instruction during this 3rd reporting period.  "N/A" is not an indication of your child's progress, but lets you know that area was not graded during the reporting period.
  • Please note that attendance through March 13th only will appear on progress reports. For the third reporting period, only five days of attendance will appear. This message will also appear, “Attendance includes only instructional days through March 13th.”
  • Students who failed to perform at a proficient level may have the following comment added to their Progress Report:   “In danger of not meeting proficiency. Recommended to attend summer enrichment and intervention programs.”
  • In accordance with the Governor’s Distance Learning Guidelines, students will not receive a “1” in elementary schools.  Students who failed to perform at a partially proficient level or better may have this comment added to their  Progress Report:   “Marks for this reporting period have been adjusted based on the modified 2-4 grading scale due to distance learning.”
2020-2021 HEAD ROOM PARENT APPLICATION & INFORMATION
Kenter Canyon’s faculty, staff and Parent Support Group depend on its Head Room Parents for a variety of needs throughout the year.  Communicating with parents within the classroom your own child is assigned to a major expectation.  Head Room Parents will work with teachers on classroom projects, activities, and needs.   Head Room Parents will also work with PSG Leadership to establish a directory of parents’ contact information and assist with Annual Giving and other fundraising activities throughout the year.  The Principal will select the HRPs at the end of the first week of school.  Classroom assignments will be announced on Monday, August 17, 2020.  Once parents know their child’s teacher, they can apply for the HPR position.  The information is provided in advance to enable parents to know the expectations and process for the HRP selection.  Click here for the HRP Application and Information.   Due date is August 21, 2020.

2019-2020 Yearbook Cover Winner Named
Entries for the Kenter Canyon Yearbook Art Contest were judged by Local District West administrators without names, grade level, age, or classroom of the students.   Yearbook entries were judged by artistic skills, use of color, appropriate theme selected for the cover, and aesthetic appeal.  All entries will appear as thumbnail prints inside the yearbook.  The art pieces were ranked in order of points to earn the coveted front cover, inside cover, back cover, and the title page.  The front cover of the yearbook was entered by ZACHARY CHEUK, grade 5.  The inside cover was created by MARGARET YOUSSEF, grade 2.  The art selected for the back cover was drawn by ELLA ABRAMS, grade 2.  The three smaller size drawings for the title page were created by Lexi Burrell, grade 5; Leah Birnhaum, Grade 3; and Caroline Youssef, grade 4.  Congratulations is extended to each of our students who entered a submission for the annual yearbook art contest. The yearbooks will not be received in time for distribution at the pickup/return days.  The company that produces the yearbook was deemed non-essential in the state in which it is located.  When they were able to reopen, they had to reschedule the deliveries for the thousands of yearbooks they produce across the country.  Kenter Canyon yearbooks are not expected until the end of June.  When the exact date is known, we will update the information on our website.  Families will have the opportunity to drop by the school to pick up their copy OR request to have it mailed to them.  For families that are relocating, please contact the Main Office to provide your preferred address if your residency is going to be different at the end of June than what is currently in our system.

Welcome to Kenter Canyon!
A message from Dr. Terry L. Moren, Principal

Kenter Canyon School is delighted to have you join our community and become an integral part of your child’s education.  Kenter Canyon offers a unique experience to its students because of the collaboration  between its dedicated staff and the incredible involvement of its parents.  The parent is the child’s first teacher and plays an integral part of their child’s learning process.  I believe we must work together to ensure a safe and positive learning environment that teaches children how to be safe, respectful, and responsible citizens, as well as thinkers, discoverers, and inquirers. Together, we will continue to make a difference in the lives of the children at Kenter.  I hope that you will become involved in your child’s classroom as well as the parent involvement opportunities afforded through our Parent Support Group (PSG), Governance Council, School Site Council, and school activities.  We need volunteers to help with classroom activities, school-wide functions, traffic safety, special projects, enrichment activities, field trip supervision and committee work.  Look for periodical announcements inviting you to TwT “Tea with Terry” socials----“TwT is an opportunity to join me for an informal chat about Kenter Canyon.  Together, we will make a positive difference in the lives of children. We need parents to help us be involved in solutions, not just reporting problems.  Together, we can make ordinary things extraordinary. (more…)
