Covid-19 Testing for All Students

Los Angeles Unified School District is offering free COVID-19 tests to all students. Click HERE for flyer. The virus testing program is now underway and it’s time for our school to be tested. We are asking parents to make an appointment for an initial test now to help us prepare for the opening of school for in-person instruction.  Although the date when schools will re-open for in-person instruction is not yet known, taking an initial test now will provide valuable information about the incidence of COVID-19 in the communities we serve.  This information will help the scientists, researchers and epidemiologists who are assisting with the program. The baseline testing will help reduce the spread of the disease by identifying those with the virus so they can be kept apart from others. Immediately prior to reopening of schools, all students and staff who will be returning to schools, will be provided with a further, back-to-school, baseline test.

Please schedule an appointment for your child at https://achieve.lausd.net/covidtestingappt

You will need your child’s student ID number to schedule an appointment.  You may obtain your child’s student ID number by accessing the Parent Portal at https://parentportalapp.lausd.net/parentaccess/ or by calling our LAUSD hotline at 213-443-1300.  Once you’ve made the appointment, you will receive a confirmation email with details.  Please be prepared to show the email on your phone or print out the confirmation and bring it with you to the appointment.

Testing is available during Winter Break. For dates, times and locations, click HERE.

A message from Ms. Pam Marton, Interim Principal
I am so excited to announce that I have been selected to lead your amazing school as your Interim Principal, while your Kenter Principal Selection Advisory Team, made up of teachers, staff, and parents, complete their task of finding the next Kenter Principal. They are working as a team to review applications and will be interviewing many exceptional candidates.  I am confident that they will find a new Principal soon. I wish to thank Dr. Terry Moren for his tremendous work as the Kenter Principal for the last 15 years. My hope is that the next Kenter Principal can carry on much of the wonderful work that has been created by all of the staff and families here at Kenter Canyon Charter ES.  My goal is to keep all the wonderful things going seamlessly until the next Principal is selected. I retired form LAUSD in July of this year, after serving as the Principal of Fairburn Ave. ES in Westwood for the last 5 years, where I led that school to National Blue Ribbon status. Previous to my work at Fairburn, I served as one of the Elementary School Directors for Local District West. I was also the Principal at Community Magnet Charter ES in Bel Air for 20 years and helped that school become one of the first Affiliated Charter Schools in LAUSD. I look forward to working with your phenomenal teachers, and very involved parents, community and staff as we begin this new semester in maintaining the high level of instruction and education that you have enjoyed at Kenter Canyon Charter Elementary School. I also really look forward to meeting each of you, and your special children on Zoom.  If you have any questions, please send me an email at principal@kentercanyon.org Kenter Canyon School is delighted to have you join our community and become an integral part of your child’s education.  Kenter Canyon offers a unique experience to its students because of the collaboration  between its dedicated staff and the incredible involvement of its parents.  The parent is the child’s first teacher and plays an integral part of their child’s learning process.  I believe we must work together to ensure a safe and positive learning environment that teaches children how to be safe, respectful, and responsible citizens, as well as thinkers, discoverers, and inquirers. Together, we will continue to make a difference in the lives of the children at Kenter.  I hope that you will become involved in your child’s classroom as well as the parent involvement opportunities afforded through our Parent Support Group (PSG), Governance Council, School Site Council, and school activities.  We need volunteers to help with classroom activities, school-wide functions, traffic safety, special projects, enrichment activities, field trip supervision and committee work.  Look for periodical announcements inviting you to Coffee with the Principal is an opportunity to join me for an informal chat about Kenter Canyon.  Together, we will make a positive difference in the lives of children. We need parents to help us be involved in solutions, not just reporting problems.  Together, we can make ordinary things extraordinary. The most important thing for us to remember as parents, faculty and staff is our collective purpose.  We have a tremendously dedicated faculty who is striving to bring a coherent program aligned to the California Common Core Standards in an enthusiastic and productive manner. Their strong academic program coupled with a strong parental involvement body will create an even more successful learning community.  For more than a decade, Kenter Canyon has continued to meet all areas of the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), demonstrated excellence on California standardized assessments, and been ranked among top LAUSD and California schools. We look forward to continued progress and achievements in the coming year. Because communications is such an important aspect of collaboration, Kenter enthusiastically encourages and invites you to frequently visit our website at www.kentercanyon.org.  This is our primary source of communications to our parents and community at large.  We are striving to eliminate the need to use paper to communicate with you.  Check out the website for updates, announcements, reminders, and quick answers to your questions. We look forward to your involvement at Governance Council, School Site Council, our school’s various committees, as well as our Parent Support Group (PSG) functions.  Your involvement in our school is a message to your child that their education is significant to you. Kenter Canyon faculty and staff will dedicate themselves to providing a safe positive learning environment for your children—one where we teach our students to “Be Safe.  Be Respectful.  Be Responsible, Be Learning.”   Please know that I will strive each day to make the best of every child even better.  If you have suggestions, disappointments, compliments, or just wish to discuss your child’s needs, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or me. Sincerely, Pam Marton Interim Principal
