Assessment Dates for Incoming Kindergarten Students

Parents of incoming kindergarten students are encouraged to sign-up for an interactive "assessment" to help us create balanced classroom assignments for our grade K students.  The assessments will be conducted in 15-minute intervals on either Monday, August 10 , 2020 between 12:00p.m. and 3:00p.m., and Tuesday, August 11, 2020  between 9:00a.m. and 12:00p.m.   The link below provides a description of the activity and an opportunity to sign-up for a time slot on one of the assessment dates. The assessments will be conducted using a Zoom format.  Parents who select a time and date for the assessment will receive an email with the Invitation Meeting ID# prior to the assessment.   We look forward to meeting our kindergarten students on the screen in just a few days!

Registration for 2020-2021
Enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year is now open. Please visit the Enrollment Requirements and Forms page for more information.
The administration and clerical offices are open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Please know that the campus remains closed to all persons.  Principal authorization is required for all employees and visitors.  Face covering and social distancing are also mandated. Call 310.472.5918 if you need to schedule an appointment to pick up materials from the  2019-20 school year, your yearbook, return school-owned property or have questions regarding 2020-21 registration. More information about the 2021 school year will be posted as it becomes available.

Kenter Canyon Parent Portal Training
Kenter Canyon School will be providing a Parent Portal training on Friday, August 7, 2020 at grade level specific times:
* Grade TK-K:  9:00am
* Grades 1-3:  10:30am
* Grades 4-5: 1:00 pm
Registration information will be provided on Monday, August 3.  For parents with more than one child in our school, you'll only need to attend one of the training sessions.
Parent Portal is the LAUSD access to the Schoology platform.   Schoology is the platform in which parents will receive attendance records, daily assignments, announcements, handouts, recordings, progress feedback and is the system where you can retrieve your child's Report Cards.
For parents to access the LAUSD Parent Portal, you'll need your child's PIN and ID #; these are required and should be treated with utmost confidentiality and security.  Kenter Canyon office staff is preparing these for parents presently.We look forward to your participation in the Parent Portal Training session on August 7.

Tea with Terry – Thursday, AUGUST 6TH, 2020
Kenter Canyon Principal Terry Moren has scheduled "Tea with Terry", or what has been commonly referred to as TwT. TwT is an opportunity for parents to ask questions, share ideas and dialogue in an informal format with Terry.

Kenter Canyon’s faculty, staff and Parent Support Group depend on its Head Room Parents for a variety of needs throughout the year.  Communicating with parents within the classroom your own child is assigned to a major expectation.  Head Room Parents will work with teachers on classroom projects, activities, and needs.   Head Room Parents will also work with PSG Leadership to establish a directory of parents’ contact information and assist with Annual Giving and other fundraising activities throughout the year.  The Principal will select the HRPs at the end of the first week of school.  Classroom assignments will be announced on Monday, August 17, 2020.  Once parents know their child’s teacher, they can apply for the HPR position.  The information is provided in advance to enable parents to know the expectations and process for the HRP selection.  Click here for the HRP Application and Information.   Due date is August 21, 2020.

A message from Dr. Terry L. Moren, Principal

Kenter Canyon School is delighted to have you join our community and become an integral part of your child’s education.  Kenter Canyon offers a unique experience to its students because of the collaboration  between its dedicated staff and the incredible involvement of its parents.  The parent is the child’s first teacher and plays an integral part of their child’s learning process.  I believe we must work together to ensure a safe and positive learning environment that teaches children how to be safe, respectful, and responsible citizens, as well as thinkers, discoverers, and inquirers. Together, we will continue to make a difference in the lives of the children at Kenter.  I hope that you will become involved in your child’s classroom as well as the parent involvement opportunities afforded through our Parent Support Group (PSG), Governance Council, School Site Council, and school activities.  We need volunteers to help with classroom activities, school-wide functions, traffic safety, special projects, enrichment activities, field trip supervision and committee work.  Look for periodical announcements inviting you to TwT “Tea with Terry” socials----“TwT is an opportunity to join me for an informal chat about Kenter Canyon.  Together, we will make a positive difference in the lives of children.
